Communications Field Engineer (TS/SCI + Poly)

The DarkStar Group is seeking a Communications Field Engineer with a TS/SCI + Poly clearance (applicable to this customer) to join one of our top projects in Dulles, VA.  Below is an overview of the project, as well as information on our company, our benefits, and our $25,000 referral program.

THE PROGRAM

The Role

  • The Communications Field Engineer will be responsible for maintaining communications systems to support field personnel. In addition, the officer should contribute to the design of new systems, and assistance to existing communication systems. The officer will also be responsible for ensuring that the systems are designed and built to the highest security standards. The officer will work with a team of other similarly focused officers/engineers, as well as with other non-technical partners across the organization.
  • Following communications trends in an ever-changing environment is key. Specific interest in current commercial telecom and data provider rules/operating standards and up to date on changes to those standards, especially those that will impact the systems the team uses.
Duties: 
  • Create and maintain commercial systems to include manipulating hardware and software to meet the standards of a secure system
  • Integrate and maintain VPN services
  • Maintain familiarity with two-factor authentication and associated solutions the team could use when confronted with two-factor issues
  • Maintain familiarity with network traffic analysis techniques and ability to perform packet captures and/or NetFlow collections analysis
  • Responsible for ensuring that the systems are designed and built to the highest security standards balanced with appropriate situational considerations.
  • Work with a team of other similarly focused engineers, as well as with other non-technical partners across the organization.
  • Procure and set up hardware/software and telecom solutions in a short period of time
  • Train individuals on the use ofthe above communication systems
  • Demonstrate the following:
    • Excellent communication skills and ability to work independently and well on collaborative teams
    • Must thrive on providing technical solutions to fulfill customer requirements while under tight time constraints.
    • Ability to adapt to rapidly changing priorities
    • Must be able to bring new, innovative comms solutions to the team
  • Maintain appropriate technical training to ensure skills and tradecraft are kept current with evolving technology
  • Performs other duties as assigned at the direction of Project Management
  • Travel: 25%

Required Skills

  • Minimum of six (6) years of experience specific to the skills identified in a position's Qualification Summary, plus the Education qualification.    
  • Bachelor's degree related to the specific skill from an accredited college or university, preferred. Relevant work experience related to the labor category may be substituted for the degree requirement.    
  • Willingness to travel 25% or less on 3-5-day trips to support customers    
  • Demonstrated experience with custom communications    
  • Experience collecting and analyzing network protocols    
  • Hands-on experience with specialized communications solutions    
  • Experience deploying systems    
Desired Skills (Optional)
  • Experience with programming languages such as Python, Java, C/C++, etc.
  • Familiarity with network and log analysis tools, such as Splunk, LogRhythm, Wireshark
  • Exposure to AL/ML technologies to analyze network protocols and communications
  • Experience in VPN set up; reviewing popular services. Also, experience in two-factor authentication
  • Experience in trouble shooting software and hardware issues
